According to statistics from Taiwan media on August 2, the mainland has suspended imports of 2,066 items of Taiwan food from more than 100 businesses, accounting for 64% of the total registered Taiwanese enterprises. The items include aquatic products, health products, tea, biscuits and drinks, among which aquatic products have been banned the most, with 781 items.
Statistics show that some of these companies are well-known, including Weg Bakery, Guo Yuanyi Food, Wei Li Food, Wei Whole Food and Taishan Enterprise, etc.
On August 3, the Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine of the General Administration of Customs and the Import and Export Food Safety Administration issued a notice on suspending the importation of citrus fruits, chilled white hairtail fish and frozen bamboo mackerel from Taiwan into the Mainland. Taiwanese media reported that 86 percent of Taiwan’s citrus fruits were exported to the mainland last year, while 100 percent of fresh or frozen white belt fish were exported to the mainland.
In addition, a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce said it decided to suspend exports of natural sand to Taiwan in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. The measures will take effect from Aug 3, 2022.
